A Ferrari 458 Italia has been absolutely
destroyed in a high speed crash in Melbourne’s central business district.
According to reports, the 458 Italia crashed into a taxi at
the intersection of Elizabeth and Collins Streets at around 3 am in the
morning. The Ferrari ended up on the footpath and it is believed that at least
one pedestrian had to jump out of the way to avoid being collected by the car.
Immediately following the crash, the driver of the 458 fled
the scene with the owner then arrived at the scene soon after.
Police are currently investigating to see if the 458 Italia
ran a red light which led to the crash. Thankfully all involved, including
those in the taxi, escaped unhurt.
At the scene of the crash, Sergeant Matt Griffiths said,
“[There are] a lot of ‘what if’ questions. It was very, very lucky that
everyone got out, that no-one was badly hurt.
“It’s a timely reminder that it’s a 40 zone in the city and
a moment’s distraction here in the red light could have resulted in fatalities
or serious injuries.”

The picture of the destroyed Ferrari almost made me cry. My BMW was involved in an accident last month. It is not as bad as that Ferrari, but it does need some major work. The aluminum body is completely crushed in the back. I can't wait to get her back on the road.
