Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch a Hyundai Rally Car Annihilate an Airborne Record - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

hyundai rally car record jump photo

The late great Colin McRae was known for a few defining characteristics, but perhaps none better than fearlessness and outright speed. That combination lead to blisteringly fast rally stage times and the occasional massive jump.

As a small token of respect to the departed racing legend, the organizers of Rally Sweden have lent McRae’s name to a particularly large leap on the rally’s Vargasen stage. This footage is from that “Colin’s Crest” and it’s absolutely unbelievable.

Rally driver Thierry Neuville punches his Hyundai i20 WRC car and rockets over Colin’s Crest to a staggering distance of 144 feet. That not only claims this year’s award for longest leap but annihilates the previous records. Neuville himself nabbed the award back in 2013 after an impressive 115 foot jump, with none other than Ken Block in his Fiesta WRC notching the overall record in 2011 at 121 feet.
Frankly, 144 feet traveling through the air is nothing short of sprouting wings and flying. It’s not surprising that Neuville and his Hyundai would finish the rally in second place overall. We can see why.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - 92-year-old's parking-lot smashing of nine cars caught on camera - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

At a Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Mayville, Wis., a 92-year-old man managed to crash into nine cars, two of which had passengers aboard, in a bizarre incident that lasted less than 60 seconds.

Russell Kerr, driving a Chrysler Pacifica, reportedly lodged his foot on the gas pedal as he reversed out of his parking space. From there, he proceeded to panic, tearing around the lot, bouncing from car to car, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Fortunately no one was injured, and according to WISN, the elderly man won't be cited.

His driver's license, however, may be under review, but police do not have the power to revoke it entirely; rather they can recommend to the DMV to have Kerr retested. Donald Gourlie was one of the nine owners who had their vehicle struck, telling WISN he was simply glad no one was hurt:“What are you going to do?" he said. "There isn't much you can say. It just happens."

Gourlie, who was at Piggy Wiggly buying a Valentine's Day card for his wife, estimates that $2,400 worth of damage was done to their vehicle. His humor, however, was still intact, writing on the card, "I love you. P.S. Sorry about your car."

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - This Wrecked Ferrari 458 Spider Might Ruin Your Tuesday - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

wrecked Ferrari photo

The parking lot at RDB LA Collision center is always full of goodies and surprises. Sometimes there will be a gold chrome Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, sometimes a gorgeous two-tone satin Rolls-Royce Wraith, and other times a Ferrari 458 Spider that looks like its nose was Hulk smashed.

There’s pretty much no available information on what happened in the accident, as client information isn’t typically discussed. Let’s just say it’s obvious this thing took on a hard front-end collision, possibly T-boning another vehicle. Unfortunately, it looks like there is some frame damage as a result. If there’s a silver lining, it’s the fact that the engine is untouched.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Monte Carlo Rally Footage Will Leave You in Awe - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

wrc kubica monte carlo photo

Rally driving in itself is a pretty incredible feat. Tame a 300-horsepower hatchback while rocketing through villages, woods, and mountains. For fun add in undulating stretches of snow, tarmac, gravel and dirt. Yeah, not so easy.

At the recent Rallye Monte-Carlo, the kick-off to the 2015 World Rally Championship, ace driver Robert Kubica showed that he knows a thing or two about zipping his Ford Fiesta RS around a rally special stage. Take a look.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ford uses a Mustang and a blonde stunt driver to prank blind dates - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

With Valentine's here and now past, love is still in the air. Or at least it should be, but for the gentlemen featured in Ford's "Speed Dating" commercial, it's more a case of false hope and a whole lot of tire smoke.

The storyline is simple: Take a bunch of unsuspecting guys and set them up on a blind date at a coffee shop with a beautiful blonde. When the girl asks if they want to leave, the men jump in the passenger seat of her 2015 Mustang GT (rigged with cameras). At first she acts uncomfortable with a stick shift, and a few of the men flex their masculinity in response. Only the girl isn't uncomfortable. Instead she's a professional stunt driver, who proceeds to thrash the tires off her Mustang in a deserted parking lot with the confused, scared, excited men in tow.
Clearly the guys have no idea that this whole thing is a setup, and this video illustrates a key issue most men have when it comes to dating: They're rubbish at it.

Case in point: Don't tell the nice girl you just met that you're a ninja. Or that you like to party. And when you're in the car, don't brag that you'll show her "what this thing can do." Because she might be a professional stunt driver, and then you'll look foolish. Which is bad for you, but good for those of us that get to watch the video.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch Sebastian Vettel Unleash the Ferrari FXX K on Track - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

ferrari-vettel-fxx-k-test-drive

Ferrari’s fortunes in Formula One, as of late, have not exactly been up to the Scuderia’s standards, but that could all change for 2015. They’ve got a cracking good driver in the form of Sebastian Vettel, perhaps you’ve heard of him, who we suspect is eager to showcase his four-time-consecutive-world-championship skills in a new car.

That show of speed will have to wait until the Australian Grand Prix. In the meantime, Vettel has been hooning around in Ferrari’s newest track-only menace – the 1,036 horsepower FXX K hypercar. If his direct quote, “Mamma mia! It goes like a rocket!” is any indication, it’s safe to say he had a good time. Take a look.

Aside from its epic performance on track, the FXX K is simply an astonishing sight to behold. Ferrari more or less took its already mind-melting LaFerrari hypercar, ripped all the unnecessary bits out, and transformed what was left into a track monster. As such, it’ll lap Ferrari’s 1.8 mile Fiorano test circuit a staggering five seconds faster than the LaFerrari. And would you listen to that noise!

Time will tell if Ferrari can turn around its performance on the F1 grid, but the Prancing Horse seems to be having a hell of a good time in its road and track-car divisions.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch the Porsche Cayman GT4 Eat Up the Nurburgring - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari F50 Crash in Naples

The Ferrari F50 is one of the Italian brand’s most coveted cars. Only 349 were made, making it the rarest of all the modern Ferrari hypercars. To hear that one of those examples was involved in an accident over the weekend is concerning.

The accident happened on Vanderbilt Beach Road in Naples, Florida. We are told that the Ferrari F50 was hit by a Lexus SUV, causing the driver to were, narrowly avoiding a second collision with a black BMW. As you can see, the car then spun into the centre median where it came to rest.

Ferrari F50 Crash in Naples

The police statement indicates that there were no major injuries. The Ferrari looks fine cosmetically, however, there is sure to be some damage to the undercarriage. The pictures don’t reveal the other side of the car. It could potentially have sustained bodywork damage too.

Ferrari F50 values have been sky high recently, following the release of Ferrari’s latest and greatest, the LaFerrari. Our friends over at RM Auctions sold a US example at their Arizona sale last year for $1,65 million.

The Ferrari F50 was conceived as a celebratory 50th anniversary model. It uses a 4.7-liter version of the V12 1990 F1 engine. With 520 hp, it is hardly short on power. Obviously those specifications are of little assistance when you find yourself spinning in circles on the highway.
Hopefully the damage is repaired pretty quickly and the owner is able to enjoy his stunning car on the road again!

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch the Porsche Cayman GT4 Eat Up the Nurburgring - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

porsche cayman gt4 nurburgring image

Porsche fanatics have been going back and forth for years over which of its products makes the best sports car: 911 or Cayman. Despite years of frankly necessary performance bracketing between the two, Porsche has unleashed a new high-performance Cayman – the GT4 – and it’s a belter.

It knicks the 3.8-liter flat-six engine from the 911 Carrera S, a significant amount of chassis components from the very hardcore 911 GT3, and can claim a heady 7 minute 40 second lap time around the Nurburgring’s North Loop. Porsche took a camera crew to the ‘Ring to highlight its new prizefighter – take a look.

Somewhere, there’s a young 911 fan tearing down his bedroom wall poster and replacing it with one of these. It’s numbers are quite staggering. The Cayman GT4 packs 385 horsepower, sprints to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds, and its Nurburgring lap time matches that of the 2011 911 GT3.

But its most important figure might just be its price. The Cayman GT4 starts at $84,600, which is by no means cheap, but around $14,000 less than the engine-sharing 911 Carrera S and a whopping $46,000 less than the chassis-donating 911 GT3. If your main objective is to go to work quickly on the weekdays and get ’round a track even faster on the weekends, is there a better bargain than this?

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch a 2,000-hp Lamborghini crash into a lake - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Just because you can have more horsepower doesn't necessarily mean that you should. Case in point: This heavy-footed gentleman and his 2,000 hp Lamborghini Gallardo, a combination that resulted in a watery ending just a few hundred yards after launch.

You may notice that prior to the half-mile pass beginning, the twin-turbo Lambo is already missing itsderriere. That, according to Jalopnik, was caused by an incident the day before. Losing its diffuser clearly didn't help with rear grip, but the main culprit in this splash appears to be the guy with the lead foot.

A lack of finesse with the throttle pedal, 2,000 hp and what appears to be a slippery Florida runway, typically guarantees one makes waves by crashing into a lake (or giant puddle, depending on your view point). Fortunately the driver was uninjured, and the car should live to race another day. Not sure if that last part is a good thing or not, especially if there's water in the vicinity.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - This 1979 Ferrari 308 GTB is Pin-Up Perfect - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

1979 Ferrari 308 GTB photo

Poll any group of Ferrari fans on which Prancing Horse is the most beautiful and you’re likely to get quite a few answers. Ferrari designs tend to hit rather than miss. But listen closer to those responses and you’ll undoubtedly hear a common number and letter combination: 3-0-8 G-T-B.

The Pininfarina designed Ferrari 308 looks just as stunning in 2015 as it did at its Paris Motor Show debut in 1975, certainly not something you could say about all mid-’70s automotive designs.

Fittingly, the 308 was born to replace another piece of Ferrari eye-candy, the Dino 246 GT, and there’s a familiar recipe: mid-engine, five-speed manual gearbox, and rear drive. But where the Dino had to make due with 2.4-liters of V6, the 308 boasted 2.9-liters of V8. American versions got 240 horsepower and could nearly kiss the 160 mph barrier.

This version, originally spec’d in Rosso Rubino paint, received a bare-metal respray in Ferrari’s iconic Rosso Corsa hue and underwent a thorough restoration using many new-old-stock parts, including the sought after Euro-spec front and rear bumpers. Inside, the 308 GTB sports new carpet and leather upholstery, but the real masterpiece lives in the boot. The pint-sized V8 engine was blueprinted and fully rebuilt at 36,000 miles, and now churns out 300 horsepower up to a screaming 7,500 rpm. Not bad.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - BMW M3 Destroyed On The Nurburgring - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Car Crashes BMW E36 M3 at Nordschleife

We have seen some car crashes over the past few months, but this one definitely gets you thinking and puts you with both feet on the ground. The BMW E36 M3 crashed during a trackday at the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife track, also known as the ‘Green Hell’.

The M3 was driven by an experienced driver. The cause of this accident was due to traffic. The M3 entered a blind curve where it hit a Mini Cooper driving a lower pace. After the impact the M3 got fire. In the end the vehicle was completely a total loss. The driver survived due to the build-in roll cage.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Car Crashes: Nephew Mayor of Split Crashes F430 - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Car Crashes Nephew Mayor of Split Crashes F430 Spyder

Split mayor Zeljko Kerum lost a valuable part of his fleet. This morning at 7.45am his 20-year-old nephew had an accident about 40km from the city of Split, Croatia. Joseph Kerum suffered no injuries, but the extend of damage to the Ferrari 430 Spyder is yet to be decided. According to the police the driver had 0.09 per mille of alcohol in his blood. The Ferrari belongs to major Željko Kerum who also has a F599.
The accident occurred when he lost control of the powerful car at the A1 motorway at Šestanovac. He was heading into the direction of the Šestanovac Blato river. The vehicle struck the right guard rail. From the intensity of the shock it bounced back, rotated numerous times, and crashed into the protective guard rail on the left-hand side of the motorway. The front part of the car was completely destroyed.
The pictures below show the intensity of the crash and the sports car in better times.
