Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Could the F80 be the Enzo of the future? - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari-F80-Concept

When the news hit that the gorgeous Ferrari Enzo would no longer be made, many in the industry wore sad, long faces and the lucky few who could have bought one of these exclusive super cars were saddened as well.

It’s been a few years now since the famed super machine has been gone, but an Italian car designer named Adriano Raeli has created a stunning tribute that might as well be the Enzo of the future.
Ferrari’s anniversary editions have always been nothing short of legendary. From the twin-turbocharged rawness of the F40 to the modern F1-inspired design of Enzo, these signature builds are always pushing the envelope of automotive engineering and design. Recently, the LaFerrari was introduced but not much has been said or written about it, nor have we seen much info or progress on the radar other than a few test drives here and there by the top automotive magazines and a few lucky race cars drivers doing some videos for specific use.

Labeled the F80, Raeli’s virtual successor to LaFerrari in some ironic way would make it the Enzo’s grandson and it is purely a fantastic imaginary project of a future Ferrari flagship, with plenty of emphasis on the future of the automobile. Adriano’s design is absolutely space-age, with wide, swooping bodywork and an aggressively crouched stance reminiscent of some craft or machine from the sci-fi novel A Fire Upon the Deep (Zone of Thought) by Vernon Vinge. Raeli’s vision for the future Ferrari is truly beautiful – consisting of fluid aerodynamics and minimal accents. The typical Ferrari styling cues are all present, however, it is important to note that this F80 is nothing less or nothing more than a full blown F1 vehicle disguised or dressed in street clothing, and the massive apertures between the wheels and body are the biggest visual cues that in fact, gives its camouflage away!

Another interesting piece of information on this “street legal” racing machine is without a doubt, Raeli’s inspiration, which unlike all other Ferrari in their corral based on styling, demand, cues and other ingredients, his motivation comes strictly from the Next Generation Air Dominance program (NGAD), a military venture to appoint the next wave of air superiority fighters.

NGAD’s requirement state that, in order to be considered, an aircraft must have multirole capabilities, which explains the road-legal layout. Its entire body is like a work of art and is expected to make the hearts of many supercar fans beat faster. Should this “out-of-this-world” machine ever came to be, we will see lines of prospect buyers gather immediately, and we’ll likely see people such as Pink Floyd’s drummer and long-time Ferrari collector Nick Mason among many as first in line.

The whole concept begins with paper sketches, moves quickly into 3D rendering software, and finally into a clay model. Raeli event went as far with his concept as to outline a unique hybrid system — something both enthusiasts and environmentalists can agree on, sort of. Under the hood sits a V8 mated to twin turbochargers and a KERS system for an additional 300 ponies, a combination good for 1,200-horsepower. The F80′s proposed weight is that of only 1,763 lbs and given the power-to-weight formula, should result in a 0-62 mph dash in only 2.2-seconds with a top speed of 310 mph!

Unfortunately Adriano Raeli does not work for Ferrari despite his Italian roots, thus many of us have this gut feeling that the F80 unlikely will ever make it on the streets. But if it does, it will certainly and proudly be a worthy successor to Ferrari’s own current supercar, LaFerrari. Regardless of what happens with this blueprint, this amazing concept car is a breathtaking project and a machine to truly admire, even if the final copy that stay around is made out of clay!
