Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - FERRARI 458 CHASING A MCLAREN P1 AT PALM BEACH RACEWAY - 925-294-5666

There are few things better than seeing a supercar in its natural habitat, but it’s safe to say that seeing a hypercar tear that habitat up is.
During a recent track day at the Palm Beach International Raceway, more than a few supercars from South Florida showed up to participate in the private event, hosted by Capristo Exhaust, but most were blown away when a McLaren P1 showed up. An April 22 post from DragTimes.com shared a few scenes from this event with the world, with two YouTube videos providing different perspectives of a high-paced race.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Video: Kimi Raikkonen watches how his helmet is made - 925-294-5666

Scuderia Ferrari S.p.A.

Kimi Raikkonen is not one to get too sentimental about his helmets, but that might change for the Ferrari driver after he visited the Bell Helmet factory in Bahrain to witness the process of designing and building one of his helmets. The Finn was once famously asked about what meaning he placed on his helmet due to many drivers being superstitious about their designs and the thought process that went into his. His nonchalant response was that his helmet ‘protected his head’.
However, even the Finn appeared impressed by how much effort went into the creation of each of his helmets, coming off the back of a visit to the Bell Helmets factory in Bahrain. The helmet manufacturer moved their global research and operations to a premises at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir last year.
Bell have also gained a new customer in recent days, with Lewis Hamilton swapping from Arai helmets, of whom he is a customer of 20 years, to also move to Bell helmets.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Take a Closer Look at the ‘Furious 7′ Off-Road Charger - 925-294-5666

furious-7-offroad-dodge-charger-1

A few weeks back I had the opportunity to sit down with Dennis McCarthy, picture car coordinator of the Fast and Furious series going back to Tokyo Drift. We talked about launching cars out of planes, the amazing life of Paul Walker, and one car in particular – the Furious 7 off-road Dodge Charger.

McCarthy said that of all the F&F cars, the long-travel Charger was his favorite… and by a long shot. No not Brian’s Supra, not Dom’s iconic 10-second Charger, but the high-riding off-roader you see before you. That might be a shocking revelation to Fast and Furious fans, but take a look at this behind-the-scenes footage of the car, filmed by the AFICIONAUTO, and it’s easy to see why the latest Charger rises to the top.

McCarthy, a veteran off-road racer himself, built all seven of the off-road Chargers based on Pro 2 racing truck platforms. This gave the cars extreme levels of wheel travel, which became quite necessary during the rougher portions of filming.

Four of the Chargers were built to full race-quality specifications with the other three equipped for specific stunts, including the dramatic ‘skydiving’ scene. McCarthy recalled that all of the cars survived the leap from the plane on multiple takes, except for one Charger. It landed on its wheels, the wind picked up, and it was dragged half a mile across the desert – losing every last one of its body panels.
What will they do for the next movie? McCarthy joked that he didn’t know if he could topFurious 7. Given the series’ penchant for going bigger and more insane with every iteration, we have absolute faith he’ll think of something.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch a Corvette Z06 Get Smoked by an AMS McLaren MP4-12C - 925-294-5666

Corvette Z06

The 2015 Corvette Z06 is a supercharged monster with a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft or torque at the ready. It has a 0-62 MPH time of 3.1 seconds and will leave a lot of cars choking on its dust. The less powerful McLaren MP4-12C should be on the list of cars that will be left behind by this Corvette, but this video proves otherwise.

This clip features both a 2015 Corvette Z06 and a 2012 AMS McLaren MP4-12C out on the open highway. It looks like someplace sunny and warm with all those palm trees passing by in a blur, but the biggest blur is the Corvette disappearing into the distance behind the McLaren. It’s absolutely no contest as the two line up on the road and it looks like the Corvette driver completely forgets that the car has a gas pedal.

Adding insult to injury, the driver of the Corvette is all on his own without a passenger while the McLaren has someone in the passenger seat filming the video. That adds a little extra weight and weight may be what settles this match and gives the McLaren with its 625 horsepower and 433 lb-ft of torque the win.
The Corvette weighs in at 3,524 pounds while the McLaren comes in at 2,868 pounds. Combine that weight difference with the AMS tune and you have the results in this video

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - McLaren F1 VS. McLaren P1: The Showdown You've Been Dreaming About - 925-294-5666

McLaren F1 VS. McLaren P1: The Showdown You've Been Dreaming About

Evo has finally done it. McLaren F1 chassis number 46 and McLaren P1 chassis number 46 were taken to the south of France to see what the new car has on the legendary original. Better brakes and rear lamps, basically.

The Genesis Blue Metallic ‘F1 Joy’ is a 1995 car and the 39th F1 McLaren built. F1 owners got the chance to purchase a P1 with a matching chassis number, and that’s exactly what ‘P1 Joy’ is, wearing the same color as well with a bit more exposed carbon fiber.

The P1 wasn’t designed to compete with the now 23-year-old F1. Instead, it was created to be the first of McLaren’s new ‘Ultimate Series’ and beat on Porsche 918s and LaFerraris. It’s by far my favorite of the trio, but the numbers don’t lie: The P1 isn’t necessarily the fastest of the three.

As for the F1, it was the fastest car in the world for eight years running and it still has a higher top speed than its successor. Of course the P1 would destroy it on a track, but could it also run for 24 hours at full throttle at Le Mans? We’ll never know, even though we’d love to.

The F1 remains the ultimate supercar due to the purity of the driving experience, and it seems like that’s not going to change.

This V12 could wake up the dead.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - One-Off Ferrari F40 LM Barchetta Returns To The Track: Video - 925-294-5666

A strange Ferrari model was recently spotted on TT Circuit Assen, the Netherlands, where it did a couple of hot laps. Contrary to what some may think, this chopped-off Ferrari F40 is not the work of a madman, but came to be thanks to the idea of a Belgian-born billionaire and part-time racer named Jean Blaton. Since he often raced under the alias Jean Beurlys, the car is also known as the F40 LM Beurlys by some aficionados, but no matter what you call it, it’s the only one of its kind.

Based on the insane Ferrari F40 LM , this yellow beast is probably the fastest F40 in history, mostly thanks to its lack of restrictor plates. It was built by Michelotto, who also worked on the LM, and Tony Gillet, the creator of the Gillet Vertigo. There are few parts that remain from the original car, as the F40 LM Barchetta/Beurlys uses a motorsport-derived, push-rod coilover suspension system that is not unlike most modern race cars. The chopping of the roof was not as simple as it sounds, since it involved creating other body molds for the rear and installing a tubular roll cage around what was left of the cabin.

Ferrari F40 LM

As you can see, the exhaust system was also re-routed to each side of the body, a solution which is likely to give its own benefit to the 760 horsepower that the car’s twin-turbocharged, 2.9-liter, V-8 engine develops. Despite its uniqueness, the F40 LM Barchetta is worth much less than an original F40, since a few years back it was appraised at anything between $190,000 and $245,000.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch a Porsche 918 Spyder Hit 218 mph While Chasing the Koenigsegg Agera R- FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

We’re in the midst of a special era for the hypercar. You have established heavy hitters — like the McLaren P1, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and the Porsche 918 Spyder — stealing the spotlight, as well as smaller supercar-makers like Koenigsegg and Pagani creating machines with horsepower figures that straddle the boundaries of insanity.
And yet outside of a racetrack — a place 99 percent of owners seldom visit — there are few locations in the world capable of stretching a hypercar’s legs without spending time behind bars.
One exception: Germany’s Autobahn, as documented by this driver and his Porsche 918 Spyder — hitting 218 mph on the highway while chasing a 1,140 hp Koenigsegg Agera R.

Watch a Porsche 918 Spyder Hit 218 mph While Chasing the Koenigsegg Agera R

Porsche 918 Spyder
What’s most astounding about this video is that the 918′s top speed is a reported 214 mph. Hitting 218 mph on the Autobahn, especially considering that the car’s terminal velocity didn’t appear to have been reached, is pretty stout (as well as totally crazy). We can only assume that the wind was favorable or that the road was slightly downhill — or that Porsche was being conservative with its specs.
We don’t know how fast the Agera R was traveling in this showdown of sorts, but given the 5.0 liter twin turbo V-8 has a theoretical top speed of 273 mph, odds are that with a longer stretch of empty tarmac, it would have kept soaring for some time.

Koenigsegg Agera R
Porsche sold all 918 of its $845,000 plug-in hybrid hypercars just last December. If that sounds expensive, get this: it remains a relative steal compared to the $1,520,000 Koenigsegg; only 18 Agera Rs, however, will be built.
Regardless, over the last few years it has been suggested that the era of the supercar/hypercar as we know it is effectively over. Clearly, that isn't the case.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Lamborghini, Ferrari in 'Fast and Furious' Beijing crash - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Online speculation mounted in China Monday as police detained the "unemployed" drivers of a Lamborghini and Ferrari that crashed in Beijing as the seventh stunt-filled "Fast and Furious" movie opened.
Pictures of the mangled wreckage of a lime-green Lamborghini, a damaged red Ferrari and other high-performance cars in a tunnel in the Chinese capital emerged online following Saturday's crash, which police said left one person injured.

A 20-year-old surnamed Yu from Changchun in the northeastern province of Jilin drove the Ferrari, while a man surnamed Tang, aged 21, from Beijing, was in the Lamborghini, police said, adding that both were jobless.

"Socialism is so good that it allows unemployed people to drive supercars," one posting said on Sina Weibo, China's version of Twitter, mocking the country's authoritarian system of Communist rule.
"What are their names? Who are their fathers?" another netizen asked.

A high-speed Ferrari crash in the capital in March 2012 killed the son of Ling Jihua, a close ally of then-president Hu Jintao. Two women passengers, one of them naked, were both injured.
The incident added to public perceptions in China of corrupt and high-living officials, and Ling has since been investigated for graft and dismissed from his post.

The latest crash happened at about 10pm, police said, during heavy rain. It occurred two hours before "Furious 7" broke the record for midnight screenings on its launch in China, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"Were they in a hurry to watch Fast and Furious 7?" one netizen said.
Earlier reports said at least one of the luxury vehicles' drivers was a student, and that residents had complained about cars racing in the tunnel, which is near Beijing's emblematic Bird's Nest stadium.
Beijing police earlier drew derision online for referring to the cars involved as green and red "small passenger-carrying vehicles" in a statement released Sunday.
"These sure are valuable vehicles," said one posting.

But Monday's police statement identified the makes of both the Lamborghini, which sells for around $800,000 in China, and the Ferrari, which can cost around $500,000

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari 458 Italia crashed in Israel - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari 458 Italia crashed in Israel image

“The Hamas did it”, was probably said in the local news as this black-finished Ferrari 458 Italia was crashed in Israel.

We’re not going to enter a political debate but we are ending the week with yet another car crash. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re talking about a Ferrari 458 Italia. The black-finished Italian exotic ride was damaged in Israel recently, after it hit a Range Rover. Details on how the crash exactly occurred are limited at this time but if you happen to know more about the incident, please feel free to share. Judging by the two images posted below, we can say that no one was hurt in the crash, but this is more than we can say about the supercar.

ferrari 458 italia crash israel 2 Image

Ferrari has been producing the 458 between 2009 and 2015 in Maranello, Italy. This was a mid-engined sports car with a two-seat body style, in the 458 Italia, and a two-seat roadster, the 458 Spider. Power to the model was provided by a 4.5 liter V8 naturally aspirated engine, which was capable of producing a total output of 562 HP (419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. The unit was connected to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, sending power to the rear-wheel drive. The 458 has been recently replaced by the 488 GTB. This was presented in Geneva last month and it is basically a facelift bringing some visual enhancements and a brand new 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 engine, with 661 HP (493 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft) of torque.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Here’s the Making of Ferrari’s FXX K - Video - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

So you thought that the Ferrari LaFerrari is an outrageous beast, huh? You though that there’s little the Italians can do to further improve it, right? Well, you were wrong, and that’s because the prancing horse company has outdone itself with the FXX K model.

That’s a track-only version of the LaFerrari and hardcore doesn’t cover it when it comes to describing it. Think of it as of the McLaren P1 GTR if you will. It’s the same kind of adrenaline-infusing ride only if you decide to buy one, you can’t take it home. Weird, right?

Well, the Italians are known for their ridiculous claims and demands when it comes to their rides. This is no exception as Ferrari will allow you to buy one and then drive it on a track alone, when special events are set up. You don’t get to take your FXX K home, the hypercar staying with ‘the mothership’ the whole time. Basically, you’re renting the thing. Is it worth it?

Looking at the specs and the video below, one might think so. The money factor is irrelevant here as only the ultra-rich can afford such amenities, so other things are to be taken into consideration, such as the tech facts and the driving experience.

Being an upgraded version of the LaFerrari, the FXX K relies on a 6,262 cm V12 making 860 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque at most, revving up to 9,250 RPM. There’s also a 190 HP electric motor thrown in the mix that takes the grand total up to 1050 HP.

All of this might is channeled to the rear wheel through a 7-speed DCT gearbox and the whole package has track-ready performance electronics such as high-performance ABS, EBD and a third-gen electronic differential.

That’s all just a small portion of what the FXX K stands for though. It has been subjected to a drastic diet as you don’t need all the luxury you get on the LaFerrari on the track. On top of that, the aerodynamics were also improved by a considerable margin, just as you can see in the video below. Enjoy!

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Crashed – Ferrari 458 Italia in Hollywood - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Crashed – Ferrari 458 Italia in Hollywood image

Another example of the Ferrari 458 Italia has been crashed recently, this time in Hollywood, after reportedly drag racing a Porsche.

We have ended the week with a car crash involving a Ferrari 458 Italia and now we are opening the new one with yet another similar incident, involving the same model of the supercar. The white finished one, with the black roof and the black wheels, has been apparently racing a Porsche when the driver has lost control of the wheel. The front end of the ride has been completely destroyed. The police said that the Porsche driver has stopped and argued with the Ferrari driver being fleeing off. The man driving the Italian exotic ride has only sustained injuries to his wrists.

The Ferrari 458 is a sports car produced in Maranello between 2009 and 2015. The vehicle was the replacement of the F430 and it has been introduced for the first time at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. IT was offered in two body styles, a two-seat coupe, the 458 Italia, and a two-seat roadster, the 458 Spider, both of them getting the same rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout. The unit found under its hood was a 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V8, connected to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power stood at 562 HP (419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. The 458 has been recently replaced by the 488 GTB, a facelifted version getting a completely new 3.9 liter twin turbo V8 engine under its hood.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - LaFerrari Chases Down Porsche 918 Spyder at Spa-Francorchamps - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ever since the mighty Porsche 918 Spyder edged out theMcLaren P1 at Laguna Seca, people have been wondering if it could do the same to the 950 HP Ferrari LaFerrari.

Whether it can or not, remains to be seen. However we can consider this awesome in-car footage of the LaFerrari keeping up with the 918 at Spa as an excellent preview from which we can draw quite a few conclusions.

First of all, we have a dry track with a few wet patches, which either way should be helping the Porsche's all-wheel driven corner-exiting skills. The LaFerrari does look a bit out of sorts on some exists as the driver needs to actively keep it from oversteering as all that power goes through the rear wheels.

Second of all, none of the drivers are pushing as hard as they can 100% of the time. Sometimes the Porsche will lift off, while other times the LaFerrari's driver will shortshift.

Having said that, there are quite a few moments in which both drivers are giving all they have in a straight line which is where, surprisingly, neither car seems to be faster. This says more about the 918 than it does about the LaFerrari, because people wouldn't expect the 887 HP Porsche to be just as fast as the more powerful Ferrari.

Even though we're still waiting on the epic three-way P1-918-LaFerrari track battle, this Spa footage really hit the spot for us.

A $250,000 Ferrari was wrecked after crashing into the side of an apartment building during an alleged Hollywood street race with a Porsche.

The driver smashed his Ferrari 458 Italia into the side of the complex at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Averue at around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.
The Porsche then stopped nearby, then the driver got out and got into an argument with the other man before speeding off.

The crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run. The Ferrari driver suffered minor injuries, and hurt his wrist. The building sustained minimal damage.
