Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - The Sound of the New 2014 Ferrari F1 Car - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Everyone seems to be bitching about the end of screaming engines in F1 with the death of the V8. Well, listening to this new Ferrari turbo V6, the end of the V8 might be a good thing.P

Ferrari's new Formula One car, the Ferrari F 14 T, is here, and unlike everybody else's car so far, its nose doesn't resemble human…

First of all, the V8 was never as good a wailer as the older V10s, and second of all, this turbo engine sounds a lot more musical than those naturally aspirated eights. At least this motor in Kimi's new F14T sounds more like a car engine and less like a space ship.

Hm, that might not be an improvement after all. You'll only know for sure which is better when you hear a new turbo F1 car in person. No video camera or microphone can capture how they sound or feel, ringing in your ears.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari 599 GTB Drifting Around Other Supercars in Saudi Arabia [Video] - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari 599 GTB Drifting Around Other Supercars in Saudi Arabia [Video]

The place where people treat extremely expensive cars like toys is most definitely Saudi Arabia. It seems that the United Arab Emirates is all about money, cars and of course drifts/illegal races.

We even have a video to show you how Arabians use GBP 2 million worth of cars as props for their drifting sessions. It appears that they don’t mind if by some unfortunate chance they crash into a gorgeous Rolls-Royce or a Porsche. No pressure at all.

Well, what can we say, they do have a lot of money. Still, those cars deserve some respect but who are we to spoil their fun.

All in all, the driver and his co-driver were definitely enjoying themselves in the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorane trying their best to impress those around. The 1-minute video long shows the two having the time of their lives, laughing without a care in the world.

That’s something we don’t recommend unless you inherited a fortunate from a distant uncle or aunt.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - BMW i8 Prototype Crashes in Germany - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

BMW i8 Crashes in Germany

The very first BMW i8 sports car has been crashed and if reports are to be believed, a test driver was behind the wheel of the pre-production model when the 30-year-old lost control of the expensive i8 prototype.

The crash happened on the A 92 near Freising in Germany and the local Police Chief Commissioner believes that speed was a contributing factor. What’s more, at the time of the crash, it was raining and the road was very slippery.

According to investigators and witnesses, the BMW i8 prototype crashed into the central median barrier before being flung across the road and coming to a rest in the far right lane. The crash happened at such pace that it is believed the expensive prototype could be a complete write-off with significant wheel and suspension damage sustained.
When it was operational, it is believed this BMW i8 is worth upwards of 200,000 euro because of all the testing equipment it had.
As with all BMW i8s, this example is powered by an aluminium Drive module incorporating a traditional internal combustion engine, two electric motors, a battery as well as all the electronics. That traditional engine is a mid-mounted 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder powertrain pumping out an impressive 231 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels.
However, BMW wasn’t entirely satisfied with those figures and also fitted an electric motor up front which on its own produces 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of instantly available torque. As a result, the BMW i8 produces a total of 362 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque and is good for a sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Dave Lang lands 180 Rollerblade jump over Lamborghini, Bam Margera crashes it anyway - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Bam Margera Lamborghini Crash

Lending further credence to the internetism "This is why we can't have nice things," real-life court jester Bam Margera had a tough weekend with his Lamborghini Murciélago after letting rollerblader Dave Lang perform a 180-degree jump over it.

While the stunt seemed to go off without a hitch, a second video has emerged showing Margera attempting to back his
Lamborghini convertible up. Despite the presence of side mirrors, the formerJackass host hits a Cadillac. The damage to the Murciélago appears largely cosmetic, although we highly doubt the error is going to come cheap.

There is some salty language in the video, although everything, even the subtitles, are bleeped out. We've got both videos
below, so if you're in the mood for a little schadenfreude, feel free to take a look.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Bugatti moving ahead with Veyron successor - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

With production of the Veyron coming to an end, all eyes are fixed squarely on Bugatti and what it
will do next. Because by next year, it will have sold
the last examples of the Grand Sport and Vitesse roadsters, and after that there will be no more. And since the Veyron line is the only one Bugatti makes – or has made, for that matter, since Volkswagen took it over – it will need something else in place or it will effectively go dormant. The only question is what that next project will be – or more likely, given the timeframe, already is.

One thing which Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber – who is now president of Bugatti and was its technical director during the Veyron's development – ruled out in speaking with Top Gear is that there won't be any further development of the existing Veyron. Schreiber put to rest the longstanding rumors that an even more extreme evolution of the Veyron than the record-breaking Super Sport would be made, and that the vehicle would die after the remaining 43 examples have been built. Nor will Bugatti proceed with development of a four-door model. It's an idea that Bugatti entertained prior to the release of the Veyron with the
EB218 concept at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show and again after it with the Galibier concept in 2009, but it's ultimately been put to rest. According to Schreiber, a four-door Bugatti "would confuse our customers."

What the Alsatian marque is focusing on instead is a new supercar to succeed the Veyron. We'd expect it to carry an evolution of the same W16 engine as its predecessor, though it would be cool to see it mounted up front in some sort of hyper-GT this time around. (But in that regard we're admittedly just spitballing.) Whatever form it takes, Schreiber is clear what its target will be: he's unconcerned by the
Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 or Ferrari LaFerrari, and only has to answer to the Veyron it replaces. Whether it will also use a hybrid powertrain remains to be seen: "Maybe, but it's too early to open the door and show you what we have planned." The point is that, after shifts in management and direction, Bugatti has a plan, and is working to put it in action. We're eager to see what form it takes.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Raikkonen starts work at Ferrari ahead of F1 2014 - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Raikkonen starts work at Ferrari for second time

Raikkonen starts work at Ferrari ahead of F1 2014

Kimi Raikkonen has completed his first day's work since returning to the Ferrari fold, as the Scuderia begins its 2014 F1 preparation in earnest at Maranello.

The Finn, who rejoins the Prancing Horse after a four-year absence, spent equally between the World Rally Championship and Lotus F1, spent Monday (13 January) with engineers as he started work in the team's simulator.

“It's good to be back at work,” Raikkonen told Ferrari's official website, “I began by getting used to all the new systems and procedures that we will use this year. From this point of view, the simulator is really very useful.”

Renowned for his distaste of anything beyond competing in the top flight, Raikkonen insisted that he was looking forward to this week's schedule, as he gets his first slice of life at
Ferrari since being forced out of the line-up to make way for 2014 team-mate Fernando Alonso at the end of the 2009 campaign.

“It's true there's lots to do, but the workload is not much different to what it was in the past,” the veteran – who has opted to retain the #7 this season simply because it was his number in 2013 – said, “For me, these days in Maranello are also an opportunity to be with the team and spend a bit more time with my many friends here.”

Raikkonen will complete two further days in the simulator, remaining in Maranello until Wednesday as the Scuderia works towards debuting its 2014 car at the opening group test, at Jerez, at the end of the month.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 do donuts in Project Hexagon - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

The Lamborghini Huaracan does donuts in Project Hexagon

Before we officially met the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 recently, and even before Autobild got to hear it start during its presentation, the Gallardo replacement had been whipped into smokey donuts in the dark of a Sant' Agata night as part of Project Hexagon. That was a four-episode series of short films that followed a trio of Brits determined to see the Huracán before its reveal. They did such a good job that they were able to play Grand Theft Auto in the Lamborghini HQ parking lot.

You'll find all four episodes
below, but if you're looking for a more thrilling taste of the baby Lambo than Autobild could give us, then head straight to the final entry. Someone chose to lay a loud musical track over the revving, so try to ignore it and enjoy the 610-horsepower V10 underneath.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Chevy planning track-spec Corvette Z06X? - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and C7.R

If you were disappointed by the news that Chevy was not planning a new ZR1 version for the C7Corvette, well, you shouldn't be. Because the new Z06 effectively takes the place of the previous ZR1, and we want some track time with the new King of Corvettes in the worst way. But if it's track time you're after, the Bowtie brand may have another trick up its sleeve.

At the
SEMA show back in 2010, Chevy brought out a track-tuned version of the C6 called the Z06X. The concept (pictured in the gallery below) was put together by the Corvette's racing partner Pratt & Miller and packed the Z07 and carbon-fiber packages as well as competition-spec alloys fitted to an adjustable suspension, the C6.R's rear wing, a full roll cage and weight-saving plastic windows.

The concept, of course, never made it to production – at least not on the previous Vette – but it could get transferred to the new one, particularly since the new Z06, impressive as it is, seems to have grown just a touch softer with features like a removable roof panel and optional automatic transmission.

The Z06X could pose an effective challenger to the likes of the
SRT Viper TA and Porsche 911 GT3 RS (whenever the new one comes around) and bridge the gap between the road-ready Z06 and C7.Runveiled at the Detroit Auto Show this week and pictured together above. It would also, as our compatriots at Car and Driver point out, be a good stablemate to the Camaro Z/28. It would also surely cost even more than the Z/28's sticker price of $75,000, but then it would likely clock even faster lap times than anything General Motors has ever offered.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Red C7 Corvette Stingray Crashes in the Snow - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Red C7 Corvette Stingray Crashes in the Snow

Despite only being on the market for a few months, a number of crashes involving the 2014 Chevrolet CorvetteStingray have already occurred. The following seems to be the most brutal to date.

Red C7 Corvette Stingray Crashes in the Snow

Details about this C7 Corvette Stingray crash are limited with this red example being spotted mangled and wrecked at a car dealership yard in Milwaukee. While we don’t know how the crash occurred, the extensive front end damage suggests that the crash involved quite a bit of speed.

Additionally, based on the snowy conditions the Corvette Stingray is now resting in, it is likely the crash occurred in the same treacherous conditions.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Real 25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach Destroyed in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Real 25th Anniversary Lamborghini Countach Destroyed in the Movie "The Wolf of Wall Street"

With any current movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, you can be assured that no expense will be spared when creating the film. Unfortunately for his new film The Wolf of Wall Street, the producers went a little too far by crashing a genuine Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Edition for a scene in the film.

Rather than using a replica, the real thing was used. For those that didn’t know, just 658 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary Editions were produced from 1988-1990. Fortunately from this image, the damage sustained by the almost priceless Italian exotic only seems to be cosmetic with the car needing a new front bumper, headlight, hood and front quarter panel.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Mega Visit to Lamborghini and Ferrari Museums and Pagani Factory - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari LaFerrari racing prototype

Rumors have been circulating for a few months now that Ferrari could be gearing up to challenge for outright victory at Le Mans once again with an LMP1 racer of its own. First the head of the sports racing division hinted at the prospect, then the head of the Formula One team lent it more credence, and most recently, the chairman of the company itself confirmed the possibility. We've even heard some rumors over who could drive the thing. But what we haven't seen yet is any solid proof that the Prancing Horse marque has actually been working on such a racecar.

That could be what we're looking at it here, but then again, it might not be. Spied undergoing testing in Southern Europe, this camouflaged test mule appears to be based on the new
LaFerrari supercar, but with some key modifications that indicate this isn't the road-going version. The revised aero is a dead giveaway, with that giant front splitter jutting out like a swollen lip and a massive rear wing protruding from the back. The headlights are different, it's got center-lock wheels fitted at each corner and there's a big snorkel air scoop protruding from the engine bay.

What's clear is that this is test mule has definitely been set up for the race track. The only question is, to what end? Even with all the add-ons, it's still nowhere near as extreme as the purpose-built prototypes that
Audi, Toyota and Porsche will be fielding in the FIA World Endurance Championship this year, and it's missing key features like the mandatory center tailfin. It could be a platform for testing components to use on an upcoming LMP1, but if not for the aforementioned Le Mans rumors, our money would have been on something else – be it a GT racing version of LaFerrari like Maserati did with the Enzo-basedMC12, or a customer track toy to follow in the footsteps of the (also Enzo-based) FXX and the 599XX that followed.

We suppose we'll find out soon enough, but one thing's for sure: Ferrari isn't working on this just for the heck of it, so expect something wicked this way to come within the next year or two.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Mega Visit to Lamborghini and Ferrari Museums and Pagani Factory - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari Museum

In the world of supercars, nowhere does it as good as Italy. Obviously home to Lamborghini and Ferrari and in more recent years, Pagani as well as a host of other small automakers, you can be assured that all Italian supercars will be world class and pieces of art to look at.

Our fan, Gonzalo Balbás recently made a trip to Italy and visited those three factories and has put together the following galleries as well as the 10 minute long video above. If you love supercars and especially Italian supercars, then the video is well worth watching!
