Raikkonen starts work at Ferrari for second time

Kimi Raikkonen has completed his first day's work since returning to the Ferrari fold, as the Scuderia begins its 2014 F1 preparation in earnest at Maranello.

The Finn, who rejoins the Prancing Horse after a four-year absence, spent equally between the World Rally Championship and Lotus F1, spent Monday (13 January) with engineers as he started work in the team's simulator.

“It's good to be back at work,” Raikkonen told Ferrari's official website, “I began by getting used to all the new systems and procedures that we will use this year. From this point of view, the simulator is really very useful.”

Renowned for his distaste of anything beyond competing in the top flight, Raikkonen insisted that he was looking forward to this week's schedule, as he gets his first slice of life at
Ferrari since being forced out of the line-up to make way for 2014 team-mate Fernando Alonso at the end of the 2009 campaign.

“It's true there's lots to do, but the workload is not much different to what it was in the past,” the veteran – who has opted to retain the #7 this season simply because it was his number in 2013 – said, “For me, these days in Maranello are also an opportunity to be with the team and spend a bit more time with my many friends here.”

Raikkonen will complete two further days in the simulator, remaining in Maranello until Wednesday as the Scuderia works towards debuting its 2014 car at the opening group test, at Jerez, at the end of the month.
