Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Juan Manuel Fangio wins his first F1 race on this date in 1950 - FZ Restoration Livermore- (925) 294-5666





By modern standards, Juan Manuel Fangio would have been considered washed up by the time he first sat behind the wheel of a Formula One car. The Argentinian had a long record of racing victories in South America, but World War II delayed his debut in Europe until he was 37 years old; in the vast majority of his races, he was the oldest driver. On this day in 1950, Fangio won the Monaco Grand Prix from the pole, lapping the field in his Alfa Romeo. It would be the first of 24 F1 World Championship races he would win in his career, placing him among the all-time greats.
