Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Car Crashes: Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport and Lamborghini Roadster in Germany - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Lamborghini LP640 Crash

For car loving Germany, last weekend must have been one of the darkest in a rather long time. A car crash is always a sad thing to happen, but this weekend a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport and a Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster got involved in two seperate crashes. Both cars could be saved from the junkyard but repair costs will be massive.

Bugatti Veyron Crash

The Lamborghini was driven by a 32-year-old driver who lost control due to the high speed. This accident happened near Vaterstetten in lower Franconia. The driver got away, at least without serious injuries, but with an expensive bill to pay.

The second accident, involving the Veyron Grand Sport, happened near Geiselwind on the A3. Here the driver, again, lost control while passing another car at around 200km/h (125mph) resulting in a crash which damaged the hypercar to a value of around 400.000 euros.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Here's What It Looks Like To Crash A Lamborghini At 200 MPH - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

This is footage taken from the inside of a Lamborghini Huracan that’s approaching top speed (around 205 mph) on the M7 motorway in Hungary–check out the squished bugs being amassed on the windshield. Unfortunately things go sour in a really bad way about 1:25 into the proceedings, and the aftermath photos taken by police on the scene are heart-stopping.
Digging into this further we learned the video was taken last September and released by the Hungarian police, we assume as a caution to other meatheads out there with more money than common sense (not to mention driving acumen). A testament to the crashworthiness of the $237,250 Huracan, reports indicate both the driver and camera-wielding passenger survived to tell the tale–and in the driver’s case, to face reckless driving charges.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Crash Time China: Ferrari F12 hits the Trees in China - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

ferrari-f12-crash-china-1-tree-2

Yet another nasty car crash in China. A red Ferrari F12berlinetta crashed into trees and bushes on a road barrier in the great city of Fuzhou in Fujian Province. The speedy Italian beast somehow ended up in green entirely, with local sources saying the driver lost control of the Ferrari while overtaking at high speed.

Crash Time China: Ferrari F12 hits the Trees in China

Damage doesn’t seem too serious but we cannot see the front. Fortunately there was nobody walking on the barrier due to the late hour, at day time these things tend to be crowded with idiots trying to cross the highway. The driver managed to get out of the car without any serious injuries, but he apparently forgot to take the key out. The dashboard lights and lights are still on.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - According To Drivers Of The Expensive EV, Fixing Something Can Be Quite A Shock - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

According To Drivers Of The Expensive EV, Fixing Something Can Be Quite A Shock

One line of questioning about Ford's move to aluminum for the F-150 centered on the cost of repair. Speaking on the topic, Mike Jackson, CEO of AutoNation, said, "It's expensive, and it's complicated and it's difficult to work with." According to Green Car Reports, Tesla Model S drivers are learning that the expensive way, with a list of repair estimates ranging from $7,000 to fix "a small dent and scratch" to $45,000 for "minor front-end damage." At least one comment on the article supports the terrifically spendy bills, user "bdwaters" saying he got an estimate for more than $6,300 to fix minor damage to a rear quarter panel.

The elevated numbers are put down to a few reasons beyond the difficulties of working in aluminum: the tools and equipment required to fix it are expensive, with one shop saying it spent $100,000 to get fitted out to Tesla standards, and incidentals like rivets and bonding agents are pricey; one repair shop charged $35 for a single rivet, and the bonding agent recommended by Tesla is $100 per tube.

Other commenters on the piece, however, provided their own evidence that ran contrary to the trend mentioned. With aluminum certain to figure in the necessary move to automotive 'light-weighting,' this will end up being an issue that affects huge numbers of drivers.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Check Out the Winning Cars of NFL Stars - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Last Sunday the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts face off in the AFC championship game while the Seattle Seahawks beat the Green Bay Packers for the NFC title. But forget football for a minute. What are the cars that these NFL superstars drive?
After all, with the money these guys make, they can drop some serious coin on excellent rides. Plus, with championship bonuses coming their way, they might be looking to see what others are driving to upgrade their rides.

Tom Brady Audi R8 photo

Tom Brady, New England Patriots
Brady has a deal with Audi, which feeds him a regular supply of cars. Get involved in a crash? No problem, a new A8 is on its way within hours.

But he does enjoy driving other brands. He has been seen piloting a Range Rover, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Rolls-Royce Ghost. You know, for those times when his Audi R8 just isn’t flashy enough.

Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts
Ok, so Luck isn’t so much known for his cars as he is for his frugality. As Rick Reilly pointed out at ESPN.com, Luck is just as likely to ride a bike when going out for a night on the town.
So, not quite sure what he’s spending his annual $14 million contract on but it’s apparently not flashy cars.

Earl Thomas Lamborghini photo

Earl Thomas, Seattle Seahawks
Thomas was made the highest-paid safety in the NFL last April when the Seahawks coughed up a four-year contract extension worth $40 million with $27.725 million guaranteed. It supposedly included a $9 million signing bonus.
And he likes to spend his money on nice wheels. He has a Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Range Rover and Chevrolet Camaro.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers
True to playing for an iconic Midwest NFL team, Rodgers likes his American sheet metal. Among the cars in his stable is a Chevrolet Camaro convertible (pictured at top). Of course, he won it as 2011 Super Bowl MVP.
No word if he ever received one of the Aaron Rodgers special edition F-150s that Wisconsin Ford dealers were selling last winter. Now that seems like the right car for a Green Bay QB

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - See What It’s Like to Drive a 900HP Pro4 Truck - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

red bull frozen rush pov photo

Last weekend we hit the alpine slopes of Maine’s Sunday River Ski Resort, but not to carve some fresh powder. Rather, we came for the trucks – 900 horsepower Pro4 off-road trucks – not exactly your average day at the ski hill.

The display of horsepower and wheel-travel was part of the second annual Red Bull Frozen Rush, and it was quite the experience. Driver Bryce Menzies came away with the overall victory, we got taken for a spin in a 700 horsepower Pro2 truck (not for the faint of heart), and the off-road brutes set about turning snow back into its cloud form. Take a look.

A few specs? These four-wheel-drive beasts, which live for warmer desert and short-course racing, weigh in at around 4,000 pounds, feature 20 inches of suspension travel, and can accelerate off-road quicker than some supercars can on-road. Not too shabby.

From the viewing area, you get the idea that these trucks aren’t exactly easy to drive. From this point-of-view footage, that notion is amplified. Thick clouds of snow are thrown up from the studded tires, rutted tracks make handling unpredictable, and as we saw – the slightest error could send you sliding off-track, into your competitor, or into the barriers.

If you happen to own a ski slope and a $250,000 off-road racing truck – by all means – try this at home.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Dodge Hellcat Runs Against Chevy Corvette Z06 On The Street: Video - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

"Annihilates" is a pretty strong word here. It's the title that the uploader has chosen for a video showing a Dodge Challenger Hellcat making a few runs from a roll against a new Chevrolet CorvetteZ06. The two cars are running side by side down the highway, you hear the three honks of a horn to signify the race, and then both cars take off. This is 707 horsepower versus 650 horsepower, and it's America versus America on a Texas highway.

We wouldn't go so far as to call this annihilation. It's a victory to the more powerfulHellcat, no question. We're also not going to get as upset as our friends over at CorvetteForum. In a straight line, the Hellcat should be expected to whup some butt. When the action takes place on a race track, we'd expect a different outcome given equal skill in both drivers.

Either way, there's nothing to get angry about on either side. Let's be happy that such ridiculous and wonderful cars exist in the first place, while looking forward to more battles, especially once the Shelby GT350 arrives to take part in the fun.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - LaFerrari Demolishes Bugatti Veyron In Drag Race: Video - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

It’s hard to believe that the Bugatti Veyron is now a decade old. When the car first hit the scene, its 987-horsepower rating (1,001 hp in metric figures) seemed out of this world for a production car, but now that kind of power is standard when you’re talking top-level supercars.

This video from YouTube channel TheSupercarDriver shows just how outmatched the original Veyron is when it comes to the latest supercars, such as the LaFerrari. Both cars have similar power ratings (the Ferrari is rated at 950 hp), and their own advantage and disadvantages.

The Veyron has the added traction of an all-wheel-drive system but weighs more than 4,000 pounds. The LaFerrari spins the rear wheels only but weighs less than 3,000 lbs.

In the video, the two cars line up for a quarter-mile race. The footage isn’t the best and there’s no quoted time for either car, but it’s clear the LaFerrari creates a gap of several car lengths during the run. Now, if this was a top speed run…

Below is a second video from YouTubeuser F3Matthew showing the view from inside the LaFerrari.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari F430 Crashes into a River in China - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari F430 Crashes into a River in China

Ferrari F430 Crashes into a River in China

Back in December, we brought you the news of a Ferrari F430 Spider crashing into an Austrian Lake. Now another Ferrari F430 has had an unfortunate and unplanned swim after being crashed into a river in the heart of China.

Ferrari F430 Crashes into a River in China

Details about the crash aren’t known but the Italian supercar itself appears to have very little physical damage to the exterior. That obviously doesn’t matter however due to the extensive water damage suffered to the F430 meaning it’ll never run again.

The entire F430 was consumed by the river before being eventually craned out with the water rushing out of every possible hole and crevice of the car.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Watch Jay Leno Get Busted In The New Corvette Z06 - Photos - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Watch Jay Leno Get Busted In The New Corvette Z06EXPAND

I guess Chevy won't need a better advertisement for the Corvette Z06 than Mr. Denim Shirt himself getting pulled over in the canyons.

We don't have to remind you that the Z06 Corvette is an insane car and the biggest performance bargain this side of a Hellcat. Made mostly of aluminum and rigid carbon fiber, it will reach sixty under 3 seconds, give normal drivers way too much speed and act pretty much like a full on race car at the hands of a professional. Women love it too.

The Z06 is also perfect for burnouts, but Jay Leno didn't get to experience that in his pre-production convertible. He did however put its acceleration to the test with the new eight-speed automatic that's actually faster than the manual, until the hands of the law switched on those sirens. Oh boy!

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - LaFerrari FXX K Evoluzione rumoured - Photos - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari’s track only LaFerrari FXX K could get even faster if rumors of a future Evoluzione model are true. Just weeks after its track debut in Abu Dhabi, Ferrari has hinted that the 1034bhp FXX K could lighten its 1165kg dry weight to become an even more potent track racer.

When we asked Ferrari test driver Marc Gené if the FXX K could produce more power across its lifespan, he confirmed it was unlikely given that the 6.2-litre V12 – which produces 847bhp alone – was close to its absolute limit. He also suggested that the electric motor would need significant upgrades to bring substantial power increases, so the only way to really improve performance would be in weight loss.

'I couldn’t believe that something so powerful was so drivable,' Gene explained. 'I’ve only experienced something like that in F1 and LMP1; the LaFerrari FXX K is on that level, honestly. For this reason, it would be very difficult to develop an FXX K Evo.'
That’s why an FXX K Evoluzione would focus its development in shedding weight, with improvements to aerodynamics and electronic stability control helping to further reduce laptimes. The FXX K in its current state is already 5sec a lap faster than the road LaFerrari around Fiorano, so anything faster would push it into the realms of Ferrari’s single seaters…

The previous generation car, the Enzo-based FXX, received improvements in Evoluzione spec, so these rumours for an FXX K version seem quite plausible. We couldn’t expect to see an FXX K Evoluzione for many years, however, but given that Ferrari’s halo car arrive little more than once a decade, there’s more than enough time to develop it.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari 360 Spider spontaneous combustion - Photos - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari 360 Spider spontaneous combustion

If you happen to be a pyromaniac, than we might have found something you enjoy, flames eating up a convertible Italian supercar with a gorgeous red finish.

ferrari 360 spider fire las vegas 4

Spontaneous combustion is something that Italian supercars have been trying to handle for quite a few years now but in between car companies not offering any details on why incidents like these continue to happen and photos of them burning to the ground, we have a lot to talk about, especially over a beer. The newest incident in which flames have eaten a Ferrari is coming from just outside of Las Vegas and it is starring a 360 Spider.

ferrari 360 spider fire las vegas 3

According to the local media, the owner of the ride was driving it from Vegas, home to Utah, with a friend. On the Interstate 15, outside Las Vegas, the driver noticed smoke coming out of the engine compartment. He immediately pulled over but flames started devouring his “baby”. He had nothing to do than stand there and watch his Ferrari go up in flames. Happily no one was hurt in the incident and judging by the reaction of the owner, in the image posted above, insurance will probably not cover it.

ferrari 360 spider fire las vegas 5

Ferrari has produced the 360 between 1999 and 2005 in two body styles, Coupe, the 360 Modena, and Roadster, the 360 Spider. Both of them had a rear mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout and they packed a 3.6 liter V8 unit, with 400 HP (300 kW) and 373 Nm (275 lb-ft) of torque. The supercar could reach 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds and top speed stood at 304 km/h (189 mph).

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Video: Black and Red Ferrari 430 Scuderia Screams at the ‘Ring - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Ferrari 430 Scuderia

While the Ferrari 430 Scuderia was replaced by the Ferrari 458 Speciale late last year, the 4.3-litre V8 powered 430 still remains a favourite among supercar enthusiasts. Not only does it feature impressive styling, but it produces an exhaust note dramatically different from the 458 Speciale yet just as satisfying.

As if you needed any further proof of just how potent the 430 Scuderia is on track, the following clip shows a special black and red example on the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife in the heart of Germany.
In case you’d forgotten, the V8 of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia manages to pump out 503 hp and when combined with a 100 kg lower overall weight figure and a revised single-clutch transmission, the Scuderia is an entirely different beast to the ‘regular’ F430.
