Ferrari’s track only LaFerrari FXX K could get even faster if rumors of a
future Evoluzione model are true. Just weeks after its track debut in Abu
Dhabi, Ferrari has hinted that the 1034bhp FXX K could lighten its 1165kg dry
weight to become an even more potent track racer.
When we asked Ferrari test driver Marc Gené if the FXX
K could produce more power across its lifespan, he confirmed it was unlikely
given that the 6.2-litre V12 – which produces 847bhp alone – was close to its
absolute limit. He also suggested that the electric motor would need
significant upgrades to bring substantial power increases, so the only way to
really improve performance would be in weight loss.
'I couldn’t believe that something so powerful was so
drivable,' Gene explained. 'I’ve only experienced something like that in F1 and
LMP1; the LaFerrari FXX K is on that level, honestly. For this reason, it would
be very difficult to develop an FXX K Evo.'
That’s why an FXX K Evoluzione would focus its development
in shedding weight, with improvements to aerodynamics and electronic stability
control helping to further reduce laptimes. The FXX K in its current state is
already 5sec a lap faster than the road LaFerrari around Fiorano, so anything
faster would push it into the realms of Ferrari’s single seaters…
The previous generation car, the Enzo-based FXX, received
improvements in Evoluzione spec, so these rumours for an FXX K version seem
quite plausible. We couldn’t expect to see an FXX K Evoluzione for many years,
however, but given that Ferrari’s halo car arrive little more than once a
decade, there’s more than enough time to develop it.
