Few things sound as good as a Ferrari F40 getting up to
speed at full song. Youtuber
Charles May caught one in the wild on the streets of Walnut Creek, California
straight romping on it as he exited city streets and entered the
highway. Click on the video below to have a listen for yourself. If you have
earphones on, feel free to crank up the volume to an acceptable maximum level
for your listening enjoyment
Amidst the mundane everyday cars that compromise the
majority of modern city street traffic a red Ferrari stands out like a
supermodel in a nunnery. Most modern supercars are quiet at city speeds
oftentimes employing special muffling to quiet the noise of the highly stressed
engines or employing hybrid drivetrains to scoot along, but not the Ferrari
F40. Even at idle and before merging on the highway, you can already hear the
sound of that twin turbocharged V8 reaching its crescendo before each shift.
Even a blast to highway speeds is pure music to the ears and cause for anyone
to whip out their smartphones and start recording.
With only about 1,315 being ever made, spotting one in the
wild is a rare treat. Even if you do find one, they’ll usually be at local Cars
and Coffee meets nicely parked for you to enjoy but not see in action. To see
one moving along is a treat unto itself. This Italian exotic as previously
mentioned is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 good for 478 HP and 425 lb-ft of
torque. At 2,425 pounds, the F40 can accelerate to 60 MPH in 3.8 seconds and
reach a top speed in excess of 220 MPH.
