Happened on Christmas Eve

A 2001 Ferrari 360 Modena was devoured by flames on Christmas Eve in Hong Kong.

According to Hong Kong-based tabloid Apple Daily, the Ferrari 360 was serviced only three months ago when the repair shop replaced some of the electrical components. The driver noticed some gas fumes during refueling but decided to ignore this potential problem and he drove off with the car. While on a highway, an explosion occured from the rear end of the Modena and then another one when the driver stopped the car.

The fire at the back of the Ferrari 360 started to spread immediately to the cabin but the driver managed to escape unscathed. The fire department responded promptly to the incident and managed to extinguish the fire but as you can see the car is severely damaged. Most likely the fire was caused by an electric short circuit and/or by some sort of mechanical issue.

It’s not based on any existing Ferrari chassis. James Glickenhaus’ SCG 003 Ferrari will bepowered by a twin-turbo W12 and will make its official debut at Geneva in March. That chassis, by the way, is made of carbon fiber and the car itself will weigh in at just 1,600 pounds. Glickenhaus, for anyone who doesn’t already know, is a Ferrari-obsessed American investor and owner of the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) team.

Its previous creations were the P4/5 Pininfarina and P4/5 Competizione. We’ve already been shown a few teaser images of the SCG 003 and now Glickenhaus and crew have started its engine for the first time. Be thankful that they did

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari Testarossa Rear-Ends Police Car in Texas, Not a Minor Crash - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Thanks to Miami Vice, the Ferrari Testarossa has had a special relationship with the police. In spite of that, there’s one redhead (the literal translation of the Fezza’s name) that certainly doesn’t get along with cops too well. To be more specific, we’re talking about the Yellow example that rear-ended a police car earlier this week.

The crash took place at the Interstate 610 and Yale junction in Houston, Texas and saw the Maranello creation seriously slam into a Crown Victoria. The adjacent photos of the crash were snapped by a Reddit user who just happened to run some errands in the area.

As you can see in the photos, this wasn’t exactly a light crash. While Crown Vics wearing police uniforms are expected to go though such unfortunate happenings, the Ferrari was pretty shaken in the accident. The entire front end of the car is ruined, with the driver’s side door mirror hanging.

The man who shot the scene happens to run a body shop that, according to him, has already taken care of a few high end vehicles and he explains he was pretty tempted to leave the folks this business card. However, the expression on the policemen’s faces is what drove him away.

The I-610 seems to hate Ferraris

If you happen to be behind the wheel of a vehicle with the Prancing Horse badge and reach the I-610 in Houston, be careful - the area seems to hate Ferraris.

For instance, back in 2011 a Ferrari F40 driver lost control and crashed into a building, with the resulting damage being considerably worse than in the case of this Testarossa.

Or perhaps these Ferrari drivers are just careless about their Prancing Ponies..

While Maranello’s engineers have already tweaked the 458’s exhaust for the Speciale treatment, the aftermarket world will always be willing to come up with an even meaner soundtrack, so here we are, talking about a custom Speciale exhaust system that comes from Fi Exhaust.

The Taiwan-based exhaust specialist got its wrenches on a Speciale, installed its hardware and then strapped the supercar to a dyno. Sure, the aural result is more of a subjective matter, but, in order to make sure things remain objective, the team brought a sound level meter into the dyno room.

Just like the stock exhaust, the Fi one comes with valves, so the company measured the noise level with the valves closed and then open. The Ferrari was revved to 5,000 rpm and, in the first setup, a maximum value of about 114 dB was recorded.

From the very moment the valves were open, the idle rumble of the naturally-aspirated 4.5-liter flat plane V8 became some sort of an elephant in the room and we mean that in a good way. The sound level? Up to around 126 dB.

By the way, 120 dB is the value where a sound starts becoming painful - we have to mention this is 32 times as loud as 70 dB, the sound of a passenger car driving at 65 mph (105 km/h) on the highway.

The 458 Speciale Fi Exhaust system

Fi Exhaust’s 458 Speciale hardware uses the aforementioned valves to allow the driver to choose between five levels of aural enjoyment. The systems weighs 47 lbs (20.95 kg), which means it’s around 6.6 lbs (3 kg) lighter compared to the stock system.

Still, if you opt for the tuner’s full system, this will include a catalytic system removal, which is now exactly what you’d call street legal.

Egidio Brandoli, 74, spent twenty years working at legendary coachbuilder Scaglietti. He had one simple dream: to help craft the perfect Ferrari.

In 1980, Brandoli set up his own restoration business. With his vast experience banked, including work on the iconic 250 GTO, the new company offered Ferrari owners a way to have their cars loving brought back to life in their original birthplace: Modena, Italy.

While that may all sound a little romanticized, those with a passion for cars will understand that classic vehicles are often seen as a living, breathing organism, and having them restored in the place in which they were made is an appealing proposition.

Brandoli, his son and the rest of his family, who all share in the business, have become one of the most authentic Ferrari restoration companies in the world. Much of that derives from Brandoli's knowledge of the cars having worked on them for much of his life, and also the many patterns they posses to help cut steel into the intricate Ferrari shapes we all love, some of which have been lost with the passing of time. Brandoli likens his work to the precision of a fine tailor.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - Ferrari F430 Crash In Austria Ends With Supercar Submerged In Lake - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

According to reports, the 36-year-old driver was riding in his Ferrari when for an unknown reason he went off the road and ran down a 70-metre hill before diving into the two-metre deep pond.

The driver apparently escaped from the Ferrari as it was sinking. He managed to get out unhurt and found a nearby house, where he called the emergency services. Once firefighters arrived on the scene they managed to remove the Italian sports car.

Although the Ferrari’s exterior looks surprisingly intact, the water most likely caused irreparable damage to the interior, electronics and engine. Incidents like this almost always end up with the vehicle being written off.

When the F430 first went on sale in Australia back in 2005 prices started at $419,000 for the drop-top Spider, and $385,000 for the coupe.

A BMW 3-Series Touring and a BMW 5-Series Touring, both owned by German police, have crashed into each other while responding to a bank robbery.

The crash happened outside a bank in Bamberg after the panic alarm was set off in the bank at 1:45pm in the afternoon. The two BMWs rushed to the scene but ended up colliding right outside the bank.

Apparently the drivers of the two police cruises couldn’t see each other because there was a large truck blocking the view. No injuries were reported but the cars did sustain some rather serious bruising.

Artcurial Managing Director of Motorcars Matthieu Lamoure said the discovery of the Baillon collection is “one of the most exciting things I have ever been a part of in this business. It is an unbelievable opportunity for true collectors to find untouched cars of the highest quality and interest.”

Other notable cars in the collection include a Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux, a number of Delahaye 135s, a Talbot Lago T26 Saoutchik cabriolet delivered to King Farouk of Egypt and an incredibly rare Maserati A6G 2000 Frua Berlinetta which, like the Ferrari 250, was housed in a separate enclosed garage and is in substantially better condition than the cars found in the corrugated iron shelters, which allowed the cars to be exposed to the elements.

Never again, anywhere in the world, will such a treasure be unearthed!  Bugatti, Hispano-Suiza, Talbot-Lago, Panhard-Levassor, Maserati, Ferrari, Delahaye, Delage…these legendary marques
make up the extraordinary cache discovered by the Artcurial car department team, Matthieu Lamoure and Pierre Novikoff.
Many of these cars were built by highly celebrated coachbuilders such as Million-Guiet, Chapron and Saoutchik, with a number of Talbot Lago T26s including a very rare Grand Sport Aérodynamique and a rather extravagant Cabriolet once owned by King Farouk.

Sheltering in a garage, conserved in good condition, the two specialists came across one of just three Maserati A6G Gran Sports with coachwork by Frua, dating from 1956. Beneath piles of newspapers, they discovered a Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spider, with covered headlights. It had been bought new by the actor Gérard Blain, then sold to fellow actor Alain Delon, who was photographed several times at the wheel of this machine, including in 1964 with Jane Fonda during the filming of ‘Les Félins’ and on the Côte d’Azur with Shirley MacLaine. One of 37 examples, this Pininfarina-designed cabriolet, its
whereabouts unknown to marque historians until now, is bound to attract the attention of collectors of important historic Ferrari.

This collection was assembled during the 1950s by Roger Baillon, an entrepreneur who ran a transport company based in the west of France. As enthusiast from the early days, he exhibited, at the Paris Motor Show during the 1950s, a roadster that he had built. His dream was to conserve the heritage of pre-war automobiles in museum surroundings. During the 1970s, before he could carry out the necessary restoration work, his dream was shattered when his business suffered a setback. He was forced to sell some fifty cars, and since that time, the rest of the collection did not move until this discovery.

Is there too much of a good thing? When the subject is theFerrari FXX K, which was launched this weekend at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, we guess not.

The track-only hypercar was displayed in all its red and black glory rolled out of the pits and joined Ferrari’s other “laboratories on wheels”, the Enzo-based FXX and the 599XX, along with the 458 Challenge, in the Finali Mondiali event that takes place every year and celebrates Maranello’s racing activities.



While the street-legal La Ferrari is no shrinking violet, the FXX K turns the volume up to 11, with extensive aerodynamic upgrades that increase downforce by 30-50 percent, depending on the configuration, and more oomph from both the naturally-aspirated V12 and the HY-KERS system.

Hey, remember when Pagani said they were done building Zondas? Well it looks like they lied. Again. Because here’s another special edition Zonda called the 760RSJX, and it’s actually kind of ugly.

The 760RSJX not only has a bad name, but also a bad color scheme. It’s a tacky baby blue with a carbon fiber hood and an Italian stripe down the middle. Good news is that it’s still got the same 7.3-liter, 760-horsepower V12 so you shouldn’t have to stare at it for too long.

It was created as a one-off for one very wealthy Chinese customer. It’s just one of many special edition Zondas that Pagani has built after the alleged “last Zonda ever” Revolucion last year. At least there’s a new Huayra coming next year to rid our minds of these mostly horrible Zonda one-offs.

No matter how you cut it, the Lotus F1 team did not have a great 2014. The team bid adieu to Kimi Raikkonen, traded Renault’s screaming V8 for a rather damp V6, and managed only 10 points between drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado – a far cry from champion Lewis Hamilton’s haul of 384.

But that’s neither here nor there, because – as far as we’ve seen on Lotus’ YouTube channel – the Formula 1 team has had more fun than ever before, and now they’ve gone and left skid marks all throughout Dubai.

Grosjean and Maldonado took to the hallways of one of Dubai’s malls and wasted no time in racing each other around in a pair electric Renault Twizys. Rated at only 17-horsepower, we’re hoping Lotus sticks to racing F1 cars rather than these small two-seat ‘quadricycles.’

Hooning aside, the future looks bright for the black-and-gilded F1 outfit. Lotus will switch from Renault to Mercedes engines in 2015, which means two things. The team might be reacquainted with the podium once again, however the Renault sponsored antics will come to an end, which is frankly all right because Mercedes has plenty of fun toys in need of exercise.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - The Guy Who Crashed $1.15 Million McLaren P1 Had It Less Than A Day - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

Last Wednesday we brought you news about a serious crash involving a McLaren P1 on a stretch of road near Dallas, Texas. While the crash is still being investigated by local police, a few details surrounding the circumstances have emerged.

It turns out the P1’s owner, a 27-year-old male, had taken delivery of the car less than 24 hours before the crash. He picked it up from Dallas-based luxury car dealership Park Place Premier Collection, which confirmed to KHOU that the car was delivered to its owner on Tuesday.

By 7:41 a.m. the next day, first responders were being called to the scene of the crash. They said the driver appeared to have lost control of the car after hitting a wet patch while traveling on McKinnon Street. The car then slammed into a guardrail. Considering the high level of damage some speed must have been involved.

For anyone about to take delivery of a high-performance car, may we suggest you follow in the footsteps of fellow P1 owner Michael Benham, who headed straight to the track after picking up his own car. A known and predictable environment such as a track is the ideal place to get accustomed to the performance of an exotic like the 903-horsepower, $1.15 million P1.

Not dissuaded by this, the company has released a very daring video of a large Renault truck jumping over a Lotus F1 car on the move.

In the short commercial, the blacked-out Lotus F1 Team truck drives alongside the F1 car on the way to the jump. As soon as the truck reaches the end of the ramp, the F1 car sneaks in under the flying behemoth making for a truly incredible and unique site!

THIS man feels the need. The need for speed. In the most insane way possible.

The thrill seeker, pro wakeboarder Jorge Gill, took to the water on a canal which was directly adjacent to a long stretch of road.

He was towed behind a rare (and incredibly expensive) Ferrari F50, which ripped up the tarmac at 135km/h before Gill could handle no more and fell off. He didn’t get halfway to the Ferrari’s top speed of more than 300km/h but it was still a solid effort.

That’s daredevil behavior right there.

Vintage and Exotic Car Restoration Livermore - 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible Crashes in Michigan - FZ Restoration - 925-294-5666

It didn’t take long and now images of what is believed to be the first 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z06 crash have emerged. This particular crash involved the brand new Z06 Convertible.

The crash took place on the I-94 highway in Michigan on the weekend and was triggered by the driver of the Corvette losing control on the slippery and wet roads. The Z06 Convertible then managed to take out another car before sliding across the road and the grass median strip into the protective wire barriers.

 

  

As the images show, this particular 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible wasn’t a customer vehicle and instead rolling on manufacturer license plates. Additionally, it has been fitted with the Z07 Performance Package and according to eye witnesses, the grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres were reportedly almost bald.

The rear of the Corvette took the brunt of the impact with the steel crash barrier tearing through the bodywork and completely destroying the rear decklid, rear fascia, wing and taillights.

No injuries are being reported.

In case you forgot, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is mechanically identical to the latest-generation Z06 coupe. As a result, it features the same supercharged V8 engine delivering 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

From the moment we spied Ken Block’s Hoonicorn RTR Mustang running amok on the streets of LA we knew the seventh Gymkhana was going to be special. Then, at the SEMA Auto Show last week, the nuts and bolts of the car came into focus and we have literally been craving for the video to drop ever since. Now, after watching Block drifting the 845-hp 6.7-liter Roush Yates V8-powered 1965 Mustang notchback with Chris Harris in the passenger seat this morning, we present Gymkhana 7.

The original Hoonigan has come to LA and the city is so much better for it.

It's difficult to imagine a Lotus, even one as hardcore and track-focused as the Exige V6 Cup, being much of a match for a Ferrari 458 Speciale on a track. Well, you're not going to see an Exige overtaking a Ferrari here today, but you will see one doing an incredible job of keeping up while lapping Spa Francochamps. The Ferrari obviously owns the straightaways, but the Lotus is right on his tail in the turns.

It's made all the more amazing when you consider that Lotus is currently fighting just to stay afloat, despite making such a clearly phenomenal car.

Remember Kimi Raikkonen's funny radio messages from the time he was with the Lotus F1 Team? That pretty much sums up the Finn and his approach to racing. Although he's recent stint at the Ferrari stable wasn't a fruitful one, don't forget he's the man that raced like crazy to win the 2007 title for the Scuderia.

In fact, that was the last time the Tifosi had a good reason to celebrate. To boot, 2007 saw Raikkonen become the highest paid driver in motorsport with a total wage of $51 million. It certainly is a pity he didn't display his racing talent too much since he got back in F1, but Kimi still likes to have fun behind the wheel.

Take the video below as a prime example of what the 35-year-old Raikkonen can do when he's given a car that actually handles, a thing that cannot be said about the Ferrari F14 T of the current Formula 1 season. autoevolution readers certainly know what the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta can do in proper hands from ourreview of the Maranello-made two-seater grand tourer.

In addition to that lovely hue, it's equipped with same majestic 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V12 tower-of-power with 741 HP and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of twist. Couple that engine to a fast-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch box and you can only imagine how the 3.1-second 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) thurst feels like.

But Fiorano isn't all about straight line speed. Ferrari's iconic test circuit is also riddled with tricky corners. Nevertheless, Kimi didn't have to concentrate on lap times this time around, so he had fun wagging the F12's tail around. You have an empty test track all to yourself that also happens to be a little wet and a beastly Prancing Horse - of course you'll showboat like crazy instead of doing all the boring marketing stuff like explaining how grip and traction levels are affected by the Manettino switch's settings and such.

As /DRIVE explains in their latest video, Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari was the son of the company's enigmatic founder, Enzo Ferrari. His destiny to take over the company one day was cut short due to a muscle disease that claimed his life at just 24 years old. 

The car that bears his name carries on Dino's dream of a smaller Ferrari with a smaller 2.4-liter V6. It wasn't perfect by any means, and for years it was considered less desirable among the faithful. They weren't even branded as Ferraris back in their day.

But in this video, Ferrari racer and expert John Pogson — whom we last saw in XCAR's feature on the F40 — tells us that it was a piece of art well ahead of its time.

In one of the strangest super car crashes we’ve seen in a long time, the driver of aVolcano Yellow McLaren P1 in Japan has managed to somehow get his expensive machine up the barrier at a toll booth. The crash is spectacular, but fortunately the damage is insignificant.

Mind you, even an insignificant damage on a McLaren P1 can cost an arm and a leg to fix. After all, this is a limited edition hyper car of which only 375 units will ever be made, and each of them cost, at least, $1.3 million dollars. That said, if you can afford to spend that kind of money on a car in the first place, a $300K repair bill is not going to give you a serious headache, is it?

The low-riding McLaren P1 is said by the journalists who have driven it to be the easiest of the new hyper car trio – this, LaFerrari and Porsche 918. It even has an electric mode in which it drives like a G-Wiz. But still, this owner of this P1 found it a bit tricky to guide the car smoothly between the two barriers of the toll booth. Either that, or he didn’t want to pay and was trying to make a run for it!
