No matter how you cut it, the Lotus F1 team did not have a
great 2014. The team bid adieu to Kimi Raikkonen, traded Renault’s screaming V8
for a rather damp V6, and managed only 10 points between drivers Romain
Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado – a far cry from champion Lewis Hamilton’s haul
of 384.
But that’s neither here nor there, because – as far as we’ve
seen on Lotus’ YouTube channel – the Formula 1 team has had more fun
than ever before, and now they’ve gone and left skid marks all throughout
Dubai.
Grosjean and Maldonado took to the hallways of one of
Dubai’s malls and wasted no time in racing each other around in a pair electric
Renault Twizys. Rated at only 17-horsepower, we’re hoping Lotus sticks to
racing F1 cars rather than these small two-seat ‘quadricycles.’
Hooning aside, the future looks bright for the
black-and-gilded F1 outfit. Lotus will switch from Renault to Mercedes engines
in 2015, which means two things. The team might be reacquainted with the podium
once again, however the Renault sponsored antics will come to an end, which is
frankly all right because Mercedes has plenty of fun toys in need of exercise.
